The Importance of Video in Education

Instructional Video Tips

When creating videos for classroom instruction, the following are important concepts to keep in mind:

  • The total video length is congruent with the material being presented - the video is not too short or too long.

  • The narrator speech is clear and concise, and the tone of speech and content should match.

  • The video and graphic resolution is of high quality.

  • Text within the video is clear and easily read.

  • The video and graphics deliver the same message.

  • The video material is well designed, and suitable for educational purposes.

  • If background music is incorporated, the correct sound level is used, and appropriate for the material being presented.

Using Video to Deliver Classroom Instruction

There are many technological tools being offered today that can add to and enhance the quality of instruction in the classroom.  Video is a technological tool that offers educators the opportunity to become more actively engaged in their classroom, while also providing a creative way of learning. Video is a great way for learners to visualize what is being taught in the classroom, thereby accelerating the learning process, and the overall level of understanding.  This innovative tool can be used to take students on field trips to far-away places, to meet other people around the globe, and conduct experiments or recreate history right in the classroom.  Being able to see a lesson come alive through the use of video is a beneficial tool for learning.
